Six days of nuthin.
Winter must be approaching, because I find myself with nothing to say. I'll attempt a stream of consciousness approach. Library stuff- I'll be teaching introduction to email this morning and next Saturday, as well. This class is always slightly ridiculous to me because we spend half of the time setting up a Yahoo email account, and then we have about twenty minutes to actually practice using it. Email should be a two part class, or something. I just don't know. Later this afternoon, I have finagled my friend Kristi into teaching a Cake Decorating class at the library. We've got ten people signed up. I think it will potentially be really fun. I've always secretly wanted to learn how to decorate cakes, so I will hopefully absorb some knowledge while I help in the class. We had a pretty good wind storm on Thursday and lost our internet connection as well as our circulation database for several hours. It's really interesting to observe humans when there is no internet availability. They would come in, wander around with pained expressions on their faces, and either leave or come to the desk and ask questions we couldn't answer such as "When will the internet be working again?" Some people coped with it better than others. Generally speaking, the younger folks were exceedingly agitated while the older folks just took it in stride. Some people actually took the opportunity to look for books. I did quite a bit of readers' advisory in the three hours the internet was down. I also noted that it's really hard to find people nonfiction books without the catalog. There were a lot of regulars reading magazines and newspapers in the atrium. It was very peaceful. I always forget how much ambient noise computers make. When our internet came back up, people actually cheered. What the hell did we do before all this?
Off to work. L8tr.
