I wish Een still posted on her blog. I'm home sick today with a really sore throat, and I just made some disgusting blueberry pancakes from a gluten free mix I bought at the coop. Cleo is on spring break and mostly hasn't left the couch all day. She's playing Assassin's Creed at the moment. Kitty the dog is lying on the living room floor guarding her food, and Trucker the dog is sleeping on his bed, and I'm thinking about maybe taking a shower. It's a beautiful day out. This weekend, we visited the Boston Harbor Marina in hopes of some soft serve ice cream, but their machine wasn't up and running yet. Instead, we flirted with a spotted leopard seal in the water and visited with several of the community dogs that randomly run around the marina.
Hey, how about a couple pictures? Here's a funny sign I saw at the power station downtown and some pictures of my sister's cat Fletcher.
My friend Wendy just reminded me about this song- awesome video!
It's officially spring, and since I haven't posted for shit on my own Vox blog, I decided it was high time to resuscitate MP3 Vox! This week's theme:
Tags: mp3eme, death, birth, rebirth
(hope this is okay, Dave- I couldn't stand to see mp3eme vox die!)
I'm just not cut out for this blogging business. It's been a month and a half since my last confession. Let's revisit those days in incomplete, semi-chronological order...
February 3, 2009- Our library's levy fails. We are demoralized and tired and hopeless. Reading comments on the library articles from the Olympian online fills me with despair. There are many hateful, ignorant, selfish buffoons in our world.
The rest of February, 2009- I work towards moving on after the vote. My attempts are hindered briefly with the discovery of a section of the Thurston County auditor's site that lists everyone who submitted a ballot in the election. I scan for friends and am sorely disappointed in the amount of people who seem to have totally forgotten to send in their ballots. I am further angered by the city council members who neglected to vote, particularly those who spoke in support of the levy at city council meetings (you know who you are, and I'm not voting for any of you). I eventually tear myself away from this spreadsheet because it is crushing my soul.
February 14-16, 2009- I visit Spokane to see my daughter perform in the All State Choir performance. Teenagers who love music everywhere! Teens singing in Hawaiian! Bands and orchestras filling the stages of the INB Performing Arts Center! It was very cool. I think Cleo found it fairly inspiring to be surrounded by so many kids who loved music and work collectively towards an inspiring performance. Spokane was pretty lame, but I did enjoy a delicious dinner at a restaurant called Mizuna (along with two of the best mojito's I've ever had) and we found two really cool stores: Auntie's Bookstore and Merlyn's Fantasy, SciFi, and Games. We played my new favorite game Skip-Bo in the hotel, and drove all over looking for coffee past 7pm. Apparently, people in Spokane don't drink coffee like we do in our area of Washington. Also, nobody would go in the hot tub with me. Upon reflection, I should have just gone on my own, but I decided to pout instead.
Second half of February, 2009- Planning for the first ever Zine Librarians Unconference in March heats up. I find myself on the planning committee, which I guess I must have volunteered myself for in another fit of volunteering for stuff by mistake, but the planning is pretty fun and keeps me distracted in a good way.
PS- If you're in the Seattle area on March 14th, please come to our zine reading at Cafe Allegro...
PPS- we need more zine readers! Let me know if you're interested.
Sorry people, this has ended up being a morbid post! I'll try to be more upbeat on the next one.
xoxoxo-

I've decided not to be one of those people who apologizes for the infrequency of their blog updates anymore, but can I just say that the last two months have been alarmingly busy and chaotic? I'm working on a campaign for my library- they are seeking a levy lid lift so that we don't completely run out of money by 2010. Campaign finance laws dictate that we have to do all of our campaigning and organizing outside of our regular work hours, so I'm basically going to work, then coming home and working, then going to work again. In addition to that, my library reopened in December after two months of remodeling, and we had a big party on January 16th to celebrate our reopening. I was in charge of lining up all of the entertainment and planning the evening, and wow was it a lot of work. It was one of the greatest programs I've ever seen in a library, if I do say so myself. Some pictures can be found here... Olympia Timberland Flickr page. Here's a not-very-good video of Kimya Dawson and the Olympia Free Choir performing a song that they wrote just for our library...
So, that's what I've been up to. Hello, everybody who hasn't given up on me, how are you?
