Perhaps some listing will help to cure my tragic vox block situation.
- My child is at the Oregon Country Fair with a friend and her mom, not to return until Monday. The house has been semi-peaceful.
- Dave is carrying in and installing aqua painted baseboards in Cleo's room
- My dog is anxious
- The neighbors across the way are installing a new roof, and making lots of nailgun noise (see previous bullet)
- I am still having difficulty typing with my decimated left index finger, which I destroyed in an old fashioned guillotine papercutter last weekend
- My desk is a disaster
- My bank's website has informed me that my credit card application has been approved. Thank jeebus.
- The fan is on, even though it's not actually hot here yet
- Did I tell you all that I had a tantrum over the general non-workingness of my previous laptop, and proceeded to hurl myself further into debt to buy a new Macbook Pro? Newegg.com and BillMeLater: the deadly but effective combination for compulsive online shoppers. Anyhow, I love it. I can't believe I waited this long to buy a Mac. Everything just... works.
- I got back in touch recently with a couple of old high school friends and my oldest neighbor friend via Facebook
- My new Macbook Pro is rad
- It's been really nice out
- My recent credit card approval means that Cleo might be able to go to Camp EARS this year after all, and I might get to see my mom and family this summer without it being a sad occasion like last time
- It's farmer's market day
- Things are finally growing in my garden, although something is eating all of the leaves off my brussell sprouts
- The new guy at work is nice, which is good, because I'll be working with him a lot
- We might get a new dog soon
- I finally paid off my refrigerator
- I finally got around to getting my "Professional Librarian's Certificate" through the state of Washington. I applied once before right after I graduated, but they lost my application and then I totally forgot about it. It came in the mail yesterday in a fancy dark blue folder with gold stamping.
- I like my job
- Cleo is starting high school soon
- We are most likely going to have a new president that I approve of in the near future
- We had a great after hours show recently at the library with Mirah and Spectratone International performing and Britta Johnson showing her amazing stop motion animation. The show is called "Share This Place," and you should go if it's ever performed near you. I am also greatly enjoying the CD I bought at the show.
- It's time for the next "Pimp My Bookcart" contest
- I am reading a good book
I just have no energy this week. It's really annoying. I went to bed at 9:30 last night. Apparently, my daughter thought it would be a good idea to drink coffee and stay up all night doing homework that was supposed to be done many moons ago. How do I know that she drank coffee and stayed up all night? Why, she posted it on myspace, of course! I think she's secretly trying to kill me. I guess it would be worse if she didn't care enough to even attempt finishing a semester's work of homework in one night, right? Right?
In the meantime, Cleo has a tile floor. Her baseboards have one layer of paint on them, and need one more before we can install them. A loft bed was purchased at Ikea. We're getting closer to some semblance of environmental order.
My daughter is so talented, I can't believe she came from my womb. Here is the song she wrote, sang, played ukulele on, and recorded this week at Loop Girls music camp. It makes me teary.
I went out on Friday night and acted like a 22 year old. How embarrassing, yet fun. There was a man with no shoes in the bar with a napkin stuck to the bottom of his foot. There was a fight between some unintelligent young men about something stupid at the terrible new club in Olympia called "the Mint." There was some watching of a found footage movie at some point in time before I fell asleep. Yesterday was Cleo's art and dessert auction for her school. I managed to get enough of a grip to make some chocolate fruit and nut blocks for the auction and help Cleo make a few record bowls, but it was a close call.
Cleo made this for the auction. It spurred a ferocious bidding war between me and two other moms, but I prevailed at $12.
I also bought some gingersnaps and cheesecakes in glasses. Also, I bought this new toy last week, and I am enamored of it.
I am strangely devoid of interesting thoughts lately, but we did get a new slipcover for our ugly couch...
It's an improvement, although it still looks pretty DIY. In other news, we're really really broke, Dave's still on the verge of being laid off with no set time for the official dump date, and we've been painting our bathroom, and I dropped bleach water in my eye when scrubbing down the walls today. We need a new toilet and a new tub (both are leaking and semi-nonfunctional), which we will are hoping will appear miraculously in our yard for free. It's also Cleo's birthday in two weeks, and I'm buying presents on credit out of sheer desperation. I have a (Cleo's school) council meeting tonight, which I don't really want to attend but will nonetheless. Cleo is performing two nights this week in "Once Upon a Mattress," which is a comedy musical version of the Princess and the Pea story. Coincidentally, I'm making split pea soup tonight. That's about it. FASCINATING. MY LIFE IS COMPELLING.
She got a bad haircut from a crazy Russian woman in Portland, so I just cut it for her. I had no idea what I was doing, but she's cute anyhow. I'm sure there are going to be all kinds of long erratic hairs when it dries all the way.
In other news, I had my first doctor visit at Group Health today. It wasn't horrible, although I did get a tetanus shot and now my arm hurts. My new doctor seems like an aaight lady.
It's like the universe is laughing at me. And my adolescent daughter takes the longest showers in the known world, and our house is too small, and we only have one bathroom, and my coffee tastes like ass, and there are tumbleweeds of pet hair floating around on the floor, and I don't want to watch the McLaughlin Group today because it's depressing and I don't like the way all of the men always interrupting Eleanor Clift and forcing her to go "EXCUSE ME...".
I think I'm going to make a blueberry coffee cake. This one looks okay...
